There are few things that feel better than sitting down in anew luxury sedan. The seats, gently holding your body, the new car smell tickling your nose, and once it is started, the simmering power vibrating underneath. What song will you play? What road will you take? Does it even matter when everything just feels so great?

When it comes to luxury sedans, there are many great options to choose from. Three of the top contenders are the 2023 Genesis G80, the 2023 AudiA6, and the 2023 BMW 5-series. While each of these vehicles have features and benefits that excite, let’s take a look at them in more detail and how they stack up against one another (and perhaps help you decide which one is best for you).

We will be evaluating these three mid-size luxury sedans based on Performance, Fuel Economy, Standard Technology, and Special Luxury Features – along with including *price options for each.

*pricing is accurate to the original date of publishing

It is important for us to note that many of the types of features that we’ve come to expect in all vehicles, especially luxury vehicles, are not outlined below – for completely comprehensive looks at each of these vehicles, we recommend you visit the respective Canadian sites for BMW, Audi andGenesis.

With that out of the way, let’s get started with Performance.

The 2023 Genesis G80 comes with 2 engine options:

- 2.5L four-cylinder turbocharged engine –starting at $69,150 all inclusive price

- 3.5L  twin-turbochargedV6 – starting at $76,150 all inclusive price

*For the purposes of the discussion below, we will stick to the internal combustion engine options but if you want more information on the Electrified G80, see here.

Both internal-combustion-engines (ICE) are paired with an eight-speed transmission and all Genesis G80 trims are All-Wheel-Drive. The2.5L turbo delivers 300 hp and 311 lb-ft of torque. The 3.5L option offers a twin-turbochargedV6 engine, boasting 375 hp and 391 lb-ft of torque.  All 2023 Genesis G80 models and trims have AWD standard.

The 2023 Audi A6 comes with 2 engine options:

· 1.4L TFSI engine with – starting at $71,150

· 3.0L turbocharged V6 – starting at $77,450

The 1.4L has 261 hp and 273 lb-ft of torque. While the 3.0L comes with 335 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque. Both engine options offer a 7-speedS tronic transmission and standard AWD.

The 2023 BMW 5-Series luxury mid-size sedan offers three engine options:

· 530i 2.0L inline turbocharged four-cylinder –starting at $69,254

· 540i 3.0L inline turbocharged 6-cylinder –starting at $79,254.70

· 550i 4.4L twin-turbo V8 – starting at $93,154.70

*For the purposes of this comparison article, we will be excluding the M5 options

530i makes 248 hp and 257 lb-ft of torque, the 540i generates 335 hp and 331 lb-ft of torque, and the 550i produces a whopping 523hp and 553 lb-ft of torque.  All 2023 BMW5-series come with eight-speed automatic transmissions; AWD is an option on the5-series – real wheel drive is standard.

To summarize, our Performance category, the top 3 engines interms of Torque and Horse-Power are:

· 2023 BMW 550i – starting at $93,154.70

· 2023 Genesis G80 3.5L – starting at $76,150

· 2023 Audi A6 3.0L – starting at $77,450

When deciding what luxury sedan suits you best regardingPerformance, it is important to think about usable power (remember, we have speed limits) as well as efficiencies. While the larger engine option on the550i offers astounding power for a mid-size sedan, the G80 provides excellent output and both the Audi and Genesis offer standard AWD.

On to review Fuel Economy.

For this category we will stick to the combined city and hwy ratings for the smaller engine for each of the 3 vehicles:

· Genesis G80 2.5L Engine: 10.8 L/100km

· Audi A6 1.4L Engine: 8.9 L/100km

· BMW 530i 2.0L Engine: 8.9 L/100km

Here the Audi A6 and BMW 530i have smaller engine options than the G80, meaning they also consume less fuel – but we must also consider that they produce less power. As with all vehicles, when analyzing these mid-size luxury sedans, it is necessary to weigh your wants and interests when considering the one that is best for you – where is your balance of fuel economy and power?

Now for a look at some Standard Technology.

All three vehicles have 12.3 inch clusters. The Audi coming with a heads-up display to keep your most important information easily viewable and the Genesis being a 3D cluster that also tracks the driver’s eyes to provide accurate information viewed from any angle.

Genesis G80 Remote Start Park Assist allows you to take advantage of automated assisted steering and speed control while pulling in or out of a parking spot – this feature is also available remotely while you are outside the vehicle for those extra tight spaces. Perhaps one of the more unique and driver centric features is the Ergo Motion Driver’s Seat, which provides enhanced side support, automatically adjusting according to the current driving mode or vehicle speed – or use the stretch mode for individual control of each of the 7 air cells for customized comfort.

Moving forward to discuss Luxury Ownership Features.

Each of these luxury sedans offer what anyone has come to expect when looking for a luxury vehicle to also spoil them, from lavish leathers and ergonomic comfort to industry leading tech and roadside assistance included. What really seems to separate these cars from the rest, is their ownership advantages (or lack there of) – so that’s the next category we will be diving into.

2023 BMW 5-Series

BMW ConnectedDrive takes some of the metal load off the owner: when maintenance is due or a malfunction is detected, if you’ve registered your vehicle, this information will be automatically sent to your preferred service partner who will in turn contact you to set-up a service appointment.

2023 Audi A6

Your Audi’s first scheduled service (at 15,000 km) is complimentary – but otherwise, there are no outlined additional advantages as an Audi owner.

2023 GenesisG80

Unique toGenesis is the Genesis Experience; a focus on ensuring that the ownership and purchase process feel as luxurious as the vehicle itself.  Available at-home product demonstrations and delivery of your new vehicle; user friendly online order platform; negotiation-free,all-inclusive, transparent pricing; and perhaps best of all, the Genesis CarePlan, where you receive scheduled maintenance for 5 years or 100,000 km(whichever occurs first) with optional valet service pick-up and drop-off to your preferred location at no additional cost. The Genesis Experience offers a car buying and ownership encounter unlike any other luxury brand – peace of mind while you shop, purchase, and drive the car of your dreams.

To summarize, while the choice for a luxury mid-size sedan will essentially boil down to personal preference, here are some of the hot take-a-ways:

· While the 2023 BMW 5-series offers the most engine options, this comes at a price

· Audi and BMW have the most efficient fuel consumption stats, but only because their base engine options are smaller

· Genesis offers the most unique and impressive technologies, an ownership experience that far surpasses their competitors, as well as a starting at price in line with (even a tad lower than) their competition, despite maintenance being included for the first 5 years
